Chapter Activity: Start a Chapter Newsletter

Chapter newsletters are another way to keep the work of the chapter in the public eye without always having it be about raising money. They afford opportunities to recognize special volunteers, give updates on chapter statistics, highlight upcoming events or recap recent events, and keep its target audience up-to-date on the chapter.

· The target audience can include any combination of donors, recipients, civic groups, churches, businesses, and even the general residential base.

· Newsletters can be issued monthly, quarterly, twice a year, or annually.

· With photos and captions, they can be very interesting and appealing.

· Each issue can highlight something special or unique – an upcoming fundraiser or chapter event, application deadlines, a past recipient, chapter statistics, a major individual donor, a strong business supporter, etc.

· Another area for a newsletter to highlight is the chapter’s association with all of the schools in the community that it serves, including elementary, middle, and high schools. That association can include a wide range of activities that involve a chapter bringing the goal of postsecondary education to all of the students in the community.

· Local sponsors, with appropriate recognition, can help make this initiative more affordable.
